I've been married for almost 5 years in January, and my first child will turn 1 year old in November.  My DH and I are working our way out of debt.  We got loans and credit cards when emergencies struck, and now we're trying to get it all paid off.  We've moved from an expensive apartment on our own to a rundown house with friends, which cut our rent and utilities in half.  Now we hope to use that extra cash to pay off our debts and save up the downpayment for a house of our own.  We will soon have our car and then our van paid off.  We got 2 credit cards paid off and are working on the other 2.  Then we have 3 loans to pay off.

That is wonderful that you have been able to pay off two credit cards. Keep up the good work!

Thanks!  I'm looking forward to picking up tips from this group for saving money on everyday items.  I'm planning to start using coupons.  Today I shopped at the bread store and got 4 loaves for $1.

Maybe you could give me advice!  Lol.  I'm not good with the couponing, yet.

Welcome to the group!

My family is on the Dave Ramsey Plan to get rid of our debt.  One thing I really think is important that is part of the plan is to have a $1,000 emergency fund.  That way, when disaster strikes, like the car breaks down, for example, then you have money to cover the expense rather then going into more debt and getting discouraged.  It was frustrating at first to try to save that much and pay minimums on our debt when I just couldnt wait to start paying on the debt.  But it has been a lifesaver!

Congrats on paying off 2 credit cards, that is awesome!  Hope to see you around the group!

Thanks!  We got an $800 eye dr. bill right after moving because my DH got a corneal ulcer.  Don't sleep in your contacts!  He's allergice to polyester and didn't reallize that he was using a polyester pillow when sleeping at a friend's house overnight on a business trip.  Also, 2 years ago we had 2 funerals to travel 3-4 hours for.  Then we replaced our tires last winter while I was pregnant with our DD.  We've gotten set back, but now we're starting to move forward.  I want to set a good example for our DD and give her the experiences DH and I haven't gotten.

Thanks!  I've heard about Dave Ramsey, so I guess I should check into his plan.  I'm always looking for ways to cut back on monthly expences such as our phone, internet, and tv bills.
