Do you or does your DH participate in a FSA program for health care?  Last year, I elected to have $1000 to spend for healthcare, guess what that wasn't enough.  If you do participate, How do you calculate how much to set as side for the year.

We don't do FSAs.  I've seen too many people who do that  and scramble at the end of the year to either pay extra for things because they didn't hold out enough or figure out a procedure they want done so the money doesn't go to waste.  We figure setting aside money on our own and not touching it is much better for us.  If we need it for an emergency, it's there.  If we don't need it, all the better.  No scrambling to use it by the end of the year.

No we don't. We have a special needs son who's back up insurance covers most of our family's deductible. So besides copays we don't have many medical bills.
