Money is going to be tight for my kids' next round of birthday parties, but I figure if I start early I can still create an awesome party for each of them. Emma wants a princess party; Jake wants a Lego party; and Caitlin wants a fairy party. I've been collecting ideas and inspiration on Pinterest and making my lists of supplies I will need.
Does anyone here have any frugal birthday party ideas? Even if they aren't related to the themes I mentioned, they may be helpful to someone else!
I did cupcakes for my kids birthdays because they will eat that more than they would a piece of cake. you can make your own or use store bought and have your own deco on top.
dollars store for fairie wings and pricess stuff.
ebay and craigs list for lego stuff.
One year a griend's son was having a construction-themed party. She made such a cute cake for it. She created a little construction scene on the cake using brown sugar for the dirt and some of his little matchbox sized construction vehicles. Of course, she washed them very thoroughly before she put them on the cake. It turned out so cute and it cost her a grand total of $4 for everything!

For legos maybe do diff colored table clothes/plates to represent the colors of legos, and be creative w a cake. Maybe make jello cubes to look like legos?
For all the parties id do cupcakes and let the kids decorate them themselves. And if you can do outside parties so they can run around.
Id def skip goody bags.
I tend to stay simple for parties when it comes to decor and such, we do balloons, a cpl pretty table cloths and fancy themed plates.
Maybe check craigslist and freecycle for dress up clothes so the girls can be princesses or fairies, or even put on the invitations to come dressed up. Princess party could have a tea time and lil finger sandwiches. For snacks do homemade trail mix, fruits, veggies, just snacks. Try to time the parties so they arent around meals times :)
Fairy Party - ohhhhh you could do a lot with this. Make cupcakes, at our Dollar Store they have those fairy wings and the wand. You could buy those. Maybe have everyone dress up and do a make believe skit or something. Look on craigslist and freecycle for things never know what you can find.
Though, for Kenzie's birthday this year, we had a favor. It was a music themed party and I made everything. So I burned kid friendly (and parent friendly!) Music onto CDs and made album covers :) didnt cost a dime, we had everything already

That's a great favor idea! I'll have to file that one away. :-)

I don't either and I don't know a single parent who enjoys their child receiving them. When did we have to start giving people stuff for coming to our party? Makes no sense to me
