10 Great Big City Hotels Worth the Trip - Are you heading to the city for a summer family vacation?
It's summertime! Time to get out on the open road with your family and enjoy those precious moments of summer vacation. Some of you love the beach, others go the amusement park route, and a lot of us choose to staycation.
But for the more adventurous family, big city travel will offer a thrill a minute. The culture, the taxis, the crowds! At the end of the day you're going to need a place to crash after all that activity. Luckily, there are hotels even in the big cities that are kid-friendly and can keep you and yours together for the duration.
New York -- The Plaza
Steps from Central Park, FAO Schwarz, and of course -- you're on Eloise's turf. If that's not a big enough selling point, The Plaza offers a children's concierge, and childcare for when you want to head out for adult time. If you're more of a downtown family, try the other hotel on the park -- Washington Square Hotel -- where your dollar goes further, and you can hang with the West Village crowd.
Boston -- Marriott's Boston Custom House
Steps away from whale watching, your Marriott extended stay hotel has what families need including a kitchenette, suites, and DVD players when the kids are all tuckered out. You can even stay in and enjoy the sights, with the observation deck on the 27th floor that offers panoramic views of the historic city.
Washington D.C. -- Hotel Helix
Choose the Dupont Circle location for the ultimate in the American learning vacation. And if you feel the nation's capitol is getting a little rough on those not old enough to be elected to public office, head back to the Hotel Helix where their Kimpton Kids program makes sure you have everything you need to care for your kids. Complimentary cribs, high chairs in the restaurants, and a child safety kit will give you peace of mind. And for fun? Family bunk bed, anyone?
Los Angeles -- Magic Castle Hotel
For the little wizards in your life, check into the Magic Castle and that's your ticket to the very exclusive club where up-and-coming magic makers and the big guns hang out as well. But magic watchers must be 21 and over (can you say parent date night?) with the exception of the weekend brunch, when the whole family can attend. Full kitchen, pull-out couches, breakfast, and a pool round out the perfect family experience. Once the kids have mastered the moves, you're only minutes away from Universal City where you can get a whole new kind of thrill.
San Francisco -- The Fairmont Hotel
Smack dab on Union Square, The Fairmont Hotel offers you and your family the best location in the city. Hop on the trolley, or enjoy what's right outside your front door. Mostly, your kids will get a huge kick out of hanging out in the Tonga Room where tiki decor and a rain storm will entertain the whole fam. Amenities for kids include everything from Diaper Genies to kid-sized robes. Babysitting is also an option.
Miami -- Fontainebleau
Right on the beach, that's all you need in Miami with kids. Grab your
beach chairs and pull yourself up to the ocean for the best views in
Miami. Or sign your little ones up for FB Kids and kid-friendly
adventure awaits! Also, movie night for kids, so the adults can hit the
club. P.S. For your tech kids, every room is equipped with an iMac.
Chicago -- Best Western Grant Park
Steps from museums, with beautiful water views, the Best Western
Grant Park is a perfect choice for the family travelers to Chicago. You
can also upgrade to the kitchenette room so you can travel with
kid-food. And you can bet kids will be all over the outdoor pool when
not chilling out at the lake.
Nashville -- Gaylord Opryland
Between the live music and the amusement parks, Nashville is a great city getaway for the family. But Gaylord Opryland takes it up a notch. It's the Summer of Shrek, where you'll get the full-on movie star treatment with the "Dreamworks Experience" hanging with the cast members of Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar. Also, if you're a cornholer (and who isn't?), there's the End of Summer Cornhole Tournament on August 17-18. It's a good time.
Atlanta -- Staybridge Suites Atlanta Buckhead
Kitchen in the room, baby pool, lots of walkable places to dine when no one can survive a big walk or cab ride. The Staybridge Suites in Buckhead is a fab family-friendly spot in a great location. If you get tired of dining out, there's a BBQ you can use to cook out in style. Also, breakfast buffet!
Minneapolis -- The Grand Hotel
When you arrive at the Grand Hotel, your child will be presented with a KimptonKids welcome gift, and a kid-sized animal print robe. I know! Additionally, the staff is ready to direct you to every kid-friendly activity in Minneapolis. Did I mention there was also a pool?
