Do any of you have a gift closet?
I know a lady who keeps a gift closet. She is really good about shopping the clearance sales and buying things that would make good gifts and then keeping them in her gift closet. I know that she always hits the clearance toys at Target for upcoming birthday and holiday gifts. She's also bought random household items for things like bridal showers and wedding gifts. And, of course, she buys baby stuff for baby showers. Even if she doesn't have one of these events on her calendar, she buys these good deals anyway because she figures she will need them eventually. Her motto is, "If you wait until you need it to buy it, you will spend to much." I think I'd really like to get started on a gift closet.
How about you? If you've ever done this, what are some good deals you've found?
No. I don't have a spare closet, and if I did I'd probably forget where I put something....which I do every year at Christmas.
I also prefer more personalized gifts, not just something I picked up beause it was a good deal.
I have a gift shelf LOL .... if I see something that is a great deal and I know one of the kids or close family member is having a Bday soon or Xmas is just around the corner then I will pick it up for them .... but i don't such the clearnce just for random gifts to stock the closet NO ....

the majority of ppl who do this arent buying for just themselves or their kids...they are buying or other occasions that will come up (maybe they have a large extended fam with lots of kids etc)
Exactly. I remember one time, she found a bunch of kitchen gadgets at Ikea for 50 cents each, so she picked those up. Then at Target she found a set of mixing bowls on sale for $3.99. Then she found a cookbook at B and N in the remainder bin for $1.99. She put all of that in a really nice gift basket and packaged it up nicely and gave it as a wedding gift. Had she bought all of those things at full price, it would have cost over $50.
she sounds like a smart shopper and a VERY thoughtful person... :-)

I use my walk-in closet as my gift closet. I do not do it quite the same way she does, but I have allready started getting Christmas presents together. I keep a list of what I have bought and who it is for. Then i keep a big plastic tote (that is NOT see through) and keep everything in there. Last year I couldn't even walk into my walk-in closet by the time Thanksgiving came around! Lol.
Now, if I had extra $, like not just buying for my kids, then I would DEFINATLY do what she does as mentioned by the op!!
1. I keep a list of where and who and what the gift is.
2. Just because you got a great deal on something doesn't mean it's not personal. I got a twilight movie guide book on clearance for $3 @ walmart last week that my 10 year old daughter will LOVE!!!
