How about soup mixes in a jar, given with muffin mixes in a jar?

Close jar securely with lid. Attach cooking instructions.
Beef Barley Soup2 lb. boneless beef chuck, cut in 1/2−to 3/4−inch pieces or 2 lb. lean hamburger1 T. vegetable oilContents of gift jar10 C. waterHeat oil in Dutch oven over medium heat and brown the meat. Pour off drippings.Add the contents of soup kit jar and water to Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Attach this recipe to the jar:Chicken Noodle SoupEntire contents of soup mix from the jar8 C. water2 carrots, diced2 stalks celery, diced1/4 C. minced onion3 C. cooked diced chickenEmpty the soup mix from the jar and the water into a large stockpot. Add thecarrots, celery, and onion and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce to a simmer.Simmer for 15 minutes.Remove the bay leaf. Stir in the chicken and simmer an additional 5 minutes.
COLORFUL SOUP MIX IN A JAR18 cubes beef bouillon1/4 C. dried minced onion1/2 C. dried split peas1/2 C. uncooked twist macaroni1/4 C. barley1/2 C. dry lentils1/3 C. long−grain white rice1 C. uncooked tri−color spiral pastaUse a canning funnel or any funnel that has about a 2−inch neck. This will make iteasier to fill the jars with the ingredients. Be sure to use a wide−mouth, 1−quartcanning jar.Layer ingredients in the order given: bouillon, onion flakes, split peas, small shapepasta, barley, lentils, rice, and enough tricolor spiral pasta to fill jar.
Attach tag with cooking instructions:In large kettle, brown 1 pound ground beef or stew beef cut into bite−size pieces ina little olive oil. Remove tricolor pasta from top of jar and reserve. Add the rest ofthe jar contents to the kettle with 12 cups water. Let come to a boil and simmer 45minutes. Add tricolor pasta and simmer 15 minutes more. Then layeraround the edges the onion, parsley, salt, lemon pepper, bouillon and the alphabetpasta. Fill the rest of the jar with the twist macaroni. Seal and attach a gift cardwhich reads as follows:
Add contents of jar to 3 quarts of water, 2 stalks chopped celery, 2 sliced carrots, 1cup shredded cabbage (optional) and 2 cups diced tomatoes. Over medium lowheat, cover and simmer about 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender.
LAYERED DRIED BEAN SOUP MIX IN A JARDried Bean Mix1/2 C. kidney beans1/2 C. split yellow peas1/2 C. black beans1/2 C. red lentils1/2 C. small red beans1/2 C. split green peasLayer each type of bean in a 24 oz. clear gift jar.Seasoning Mix1 T. dried sweet pepper flakes2 tsp. chicken bouillon granules2 tsp. dried minced onion1 1/2 tsp. salt1 tsp. dried parsley flakes1/2 tsp. black pepper1/2 tsp. garlic powder1/2 tsp. celery seed4 T. brown sugarCombine ingredients. Store in a resealable plastic bag. Attach to jar and give withrecipe for Seasoned Bean Soup. Yields about 3 cups dried bean mix and 1/4 cupseasoning mix.

Pour 4 cups boiling waterover beans; cover and let soak overnight.Drain beans and return to stock pot. Add 6 cups water, cover, and bring to a boilover high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer 1 to 1/2 hours or until beans arealmost tender.Add
tomatoes and seasoning mix. Stirring occasionally, cover and simmer 30
minutes. Uncover beans and continue to simmer about 1 hour longer or
untilbeans are tender and soup thickens. Serve warm. Yields about 10 cups soup
MEXICAN BEAN SOUP MIX3/4 C. each dried pinto and red kidney beansFlavor Packet2 T. dried onion flakes2 T. dried parsley flakes1 T. chili powder2 tsp. ground cumin1 tsp. dried oregano6 chicken bouillon cubes1/2 C. uncooked white rice1 C. small−cut pastaPut beans in a 1−quart jar with lid. Put flavor packet ingredients in asandwich−size plastic bag. Seal bag with tie or ribbon. Do the same with the riceand pasta. Place in jar with beans.
Type or print neatly the Cooking Directions on a small card, punch a hole in thecorner, and attach with a ribbon to the jar.Cooking DirectionsRinse and pick over beans. Put into a 4− to 5−quart heavy pot with 4 cups water.Bring to a boil, cover and remove from heat. Let sit 1 hour.Drain beans and return to pot. Add 8 cups water and contents of flavor packet.Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 1 hour or until beans arefirm−tender (time will vary depending on age of beans). Stir in rice and bring to asimmer. Cover and simmer 15 minutes.Uncover, stir in pasta and 1/2 cup water. Simmer 10 minutes or until pasta istender.
POTATO SOUP IN A JAR1 3/4 C. instant mashed potatoes1 1/2 C. dried milk2 T. instant chicken bouillon2 tsp. dried minced onion1 tsp. dried parsley1/4 tsp. ground white pepper1/4 tsp. dried thyme1/8 tsp. turmeric1 1/2 tsp. seasoning saltCombine all ingredients in a bowl; mix well. Put ingredients in a 1 quart jar.
On gift tag write: Place 1/2 cup mix in soup bowl; add 1 cup of boiling water; stiruntil smooth.
Sugar Free Instant Rice Pudding mix
Mix all ingredients together. Use to 2 to 3 teaspoons mix per cup of boiling water. Store in airtight container.
NOTE: for sugar free mix, use artificially sweetened lemonade drink mix
