$235 for a new tire...I don't think so.

Yesterday I saw that I ran over a nail. I knew I hadn't lost any pressure becuase there is no slack in the tire and my tire pressure sensor has not gone off.
It can't be a very long nail, right? We shall see.

Our regular place took one look and said the tire needs to be replaced. I know that it can be plugged. The tires are about a year old and the nail is in the tread, not the wall.

I went with my gut and said no thanks. I took it to the next place and they said they are going to patch/plug it. So, yeah, $20 vs $235.

I really hate that I don't know when I am getting ripped off from the mechanic. This time, I followed my gut (I have had plug/patches done in the past, with no issues after) and I am going to resolve to read about my car more and get to know it.
Besides, if I'm going to replace tires, you best believe I'm gonna find the best deal possible!!:)

I'd report to BBB and plaster the story all over FB. Bet they will never take advantage of a woman again!

Wow.  We just got new tires for one of our cars, and we paid $510 for the whole set!  I let my DH make the calls, though.  I got a quote of $625 when I called.

The plug is definitely what the tire needed.  I hate how some mechanics try to rip off the female customers.

This is why I'm happy that my uncle owns a tire shop.

Quick fix plugs are good for just that, a quick fix. Most newer tires are not meant to be long term patched by just a plug itself. Depending on your tire, $235 is a decent deal, but then again each one of my tires are about $250 a piece.

I volunteer to save lives; What do you do?

We have learned to do the same when we get a hole like that.  It works and save us a ton of money!

Well this whole thing turned into quite the trip today. It took them all day to do an oil change (they never called back to say my car was ready!) and there is still a nail in my tire. It looks like I will end up replacing my tires; they said the tread is 2/32 and they can't patch it. Whatever.

I guess I will shop around and see what kind of deal I can get:(

I just got mad at the first stop we made. The guy didn't even take the car back; he just took one look and said "new tire is needed!"

I would love to go undercover in one of these places Chris Hanson style and see what really goes on.
