How many credit cards do you have? Including retail cards? How much in debt are you from them?
We have 9 of them with about probably around 30,000 available credit (they are mostly paid off and we do not use them). We only owe $5,000 total on one card right now, and that is at 0% interest for the next 12 months, and will be paid off within that.
2 cards (some others open and filed away). We have excellent credit, and do carry about 8000 on one card that I keep juggling from one 0% card to another. I'd love to get it paid off, but it just always makes sense to pay down something that accrues interest, like dh's student loan or our home, than to knuckle down on it. For a while we never even had to pay a balance transfer fee, and thankfully that is coming back now. While the recession was on I had to pay 3% a couple times to transfer it. The other one we use for Amazon and other online purchases and pay it in full each month.
1. Almost completely payed off only 1,700 left, was at 5,000
no cards no debt
I have 3. One I only use on rare occassion - Macy's - to buy skin care products I really like and stuff like that. It only has $60 or less, I pay it off way before reusing. The next is a Sears which has a low limit and I am half paid on it at this point. The last is Jcpenny which I am not doing so well this year at paying towards it more than the min and it's at $550 now. Usually we pay them off once a year, but we had more expenses this year to address so they stayed higher.
