I was talking to a fellow couponer that says you should buy the amount of papers of members in your family - i.e. she has her hubby, herself, and 2 kids - so each week she buys 4 papers to get the coupons out of.
Quoting specialwingz:Don't be too hard on yourself. Many times, the coupons don't pay back the cost of the paper. That's when I don't bother buying it. =)

Well, I don't feel as bad now knowing that I only missed one insert this weekend... Totally blanked on buying newspapers this weekend. Still trying to get this couponing thing down.

Our paper costs $2.50. So, if there aren't enough coupons in there that I would ACTUALLY use to cover the cost, I consider it a waste of my money. I can't see spending $10 on newspapers for the 4 in my household. We buy a lot of store brand stuff that we have found to be comparable in quality to name brand stuff. But, at a fraction of the cost, even comparing with name brand coupons. Our grocery store gives a total of how much you saved using store brand versus name brand. Mine is generally around $30 a trip in savings. I ran totals myself one time, to make sure they weren't pulling a marketing scheme. It was right on the money. LOL.

That would be interesting to see the difference.... I should bring a calculator next time and do the difference between store brand and brand name and add that to my total I save w/coupons.. This would be especially the case when you shop at stores that as a rule don't offer double coupons, but I still think in the long run you are saving $$ buying store brand, but just no way to account for it. KWIM?
My hubby has a hard time wrapping his head around the "buy more to save more" concept... AKA - B1G1 especially on things I KNOW we will use - or buy 2 get 1 free. He doesn't see the savings because we had to buy at least one to begin with.
