Does anyone make their own?? I've seen a few recipes for it and all of them call for sugar free lemonade mix (last thing I expected to need for it lol) but I read that sometimes it leaves a weird white residue or similar for a lot of people and dont want to take the chance of that happening :/

also other things like febreeze would be helpful :)

Use three drops of regular dawn. No need to buy special dishwasher detergent.

I tried and it left white residue on everything. I tried various kinds of mixes and vinegar in rise. I hated washing stuff again so I just buy it. I do use honemade laundry soap and fabric softner:

I haven't.  I've used the Dawn trick when I've run out of dishwasher detergent.

I've found Dollar General's brand of liquid dishwasher detergent to be comparable to Cascade when it comes to cleaning and leaving spotless dishes.  Costs less and lasts for a good month.

I was told to use lemonade powder to "easily" rid my old dishwasher of mineral build up.  It looked worse after the lemonade than it did before!  So, it would not be my choice ingredient in any homemade formula.

I never did use the dishwasher detergent recipes, but I'd be interested in finding a good one.

Lemi-shine is way cheaper than buying koolaid or lemon drink mixes, if you even need it in your wash.

I found this to be very helpful:
