And this is NOT including the braces ugh!!! My husband's insurance through his work is horrid. No copays for doctor's visits. The ins pays NOTHING till we reach our deductible. that is $1500 per person. My son got sent home from school with a fever and very sore ear. He is autistic so when he says something hurts I take it serious. We are going to have to pay at least $200 for the office visit and his antibiotic was $140. We have a HSA but we couldn't put enough in it to cover all the deductibles. We had to pay $2,000 for when my daughter put a popcorn kernel in her ear last year. It seems every extra cent gets spent at the dr or dentist or pharmacy.
OK vent over LOL The only good thing is his employer puts $750 in the HSA as well so that is going to cover todays bills.
and I shouldn't complain bec my friend's son spent a month in the PICU and her after insurance bills are in the hundreds of thousands. and yes I am thankful to have insurance so I will shut it LOL
I thought our insurance was bad in MO before we moved but I would love to pay $25 for an office visit again LOL
Quoting KenzieQsMommy:
Oh wow that's awful!! Our insurance sucks but not quite that bad lol. Sorry!!!
I think medical bills are going to undo the middle class family. Its just terrible how expensive everything is.
Our insurance is pretty good but our premiums are $1000 a month....for 3 people. We have no vision insurance either, so that's a pain since we all wear glasses and contacts.
Our daughter, who is married now, was in a car accident over a year ago (about 16 months now). It wasn't her fault. The other person's insurance company offered us a settlement...and I called around to make sure what our medical bills would be so I could be sure we were getting a fair shake. I called the ambulance service and they said we didn't owe anything to them. I figured our insurance had paid it since they only had to drive her one block....from the doctor's office to the hospital.
A year later, we got a $420 bill from them. For the past 3 months, I have ignored it...thinking it must be a mistake and they will clear it up. No such luck. Now they are saying they are going to report it on my daughter's credit if we don't pay it. UGH. Of course we have long ago settled up with the insurance company so this will come out of our pockets. Its very frustrating dealing with medical companies.
The health care industry needs to be radically reformed. As aonther poster said, health care will bankrupt the middle class in the US. I am lucky that I have good insurance otherwise I would be totally screwed and so would my 2 year old. We both have docs, specialists etc and medications we have to take.
