Do you do your own taxes or have someone else file for you?

I usually do them myself.  This year, I am asking my sister to do them.  Being a widow, I don't want to make any mistakes.  My husband didn't file for several years before we are married so the IRS is taking whatever return we get to go towards that, this year will be the last year they can do it since he is now deceased.  I am hoping that since the kids are mine I will get the EIC share of the return for them since we didn't get it last year b/c hubby didn't file in 2011.

Does anyone know, can the IRS take MY refund if the debt is from hubby BEFORE we were married?

We e-file ourselves and use turbo-tax deluxe.

I am not an accountant but are you married filing jointly?  I know from my DH's federal school loans from when he was single they took all of our refund a few years ago.  You should still get the credit for your dependent children.
