Not always. Just depends on the meal.

Unless its soup, yes.  Our whole meal consist of "side" dishes since we eat vegetables or beans.

Last night I made a vegetarian soup so that was a one pot meal...except we had whole wheat crackers with peanut butter on the side, because my husband is wild about them with soup!  Don't know why he's like that...but I have started doing that too.

Always a side dish for dinner. Usually it's a veggie. Sometimes it's a fruit salad. Lunch is always a fruit, veggie, grain and protein. So yes, there are sides.

Only when expecting company. Keeping portions down is already a struggle in this house and adding a side dish will mean more leftovers that often turns into wasted food. Not happy about it but it is the truth. So I stay away from side dishes.

It depends on the meal. If I can get all of the veggies I want in the main dish, then no side dish is needed. Goes for both lunch and dinner.
