I need all the help I can get saving money. My husband is about to lose about $600 a month.
Best way to save money in all areas?
How to save on electricity?
Everything
I am so scared.
Menu planning
Unplug EVERYTHING - the only thing that stays plugged in at my house is the fridge. It's kind of a pain, but I bought power strips to help make it easier.
Buy a water heater blanket
Wash only in cold water
Do the dishes by hand
Put a bottle of water in the toilet tank - saves water
Time your showers (I actually used a timing shower head and DH threatened to leave me if I didn't take it off, what a baby!)
Call all of your monthly billers (cable, phone, insurance, etc) and see if they can offer you a lower rate. We got our cable cut in 1/2 for a year - same channels and everything!!
Let us know if you need anything more specific - this group is very helpful!
Do a budget and see where you are spending on "wants" and not "needs" cut the "wants" out, (things like going for a coffee, eating out, misc. spending).
We put our stuff on power strips and then turn the power strips off when not in use.
I fdo the laundry in cold or warm water, never hot.
Cut down on shower times.
meal plan and use coupons.
see if you can get cheaper car insurance
use a gas rewards program for the gas in your car.
Thanks.
What is a water heater blanket?

I would say make a list of what money is coming in the house, and then make a list of what goes out of the house. Once you have the list of what goes out look at what you things you can cut back on like cable, cell phone, or what items you can bundle. You can also call each company and see if they are offering any discounts, or other plan options that might work for your family. I would also see if there are any low income programs you can qualify for. For use here in MN we have some called VEAP for phones, Energy Assistance for lights and heat.
The nex thing I would do is start to meal plan. Doing this will also allow you to stay on a food budget too Clip coupons, shop sales, look for the B1G1. I know for me I grocery stop at 3 different stores. Always starting at the dollar store first.
Good luck!
