Hi everyone - any suggestions on a good hotel in washington dc, traveling with two kids but i'd like to see the main attractions but i'd like a hotel that is safe and a very reasonable price?

Stay in maryland ... Up the Rockville pike.

I have gone on Hotwire and gotten nice rooms as low as 40 a night.

i think i'd like to stay under $160 a night, but the prices are so high and the reviews are tough on some of these lower priced hotels, safety is a big concern...

I would also check how close to the metro. That was a life saver for us.
