how did you get your kid to swallow pills?

Ethan is big enough to be able to take an adult advil pill but i can't get him to swallow them. When I put it into a spoon of applesauce, hoping to get him to swallow it that way, he chewed the apple sauce, popped the gel tab, gagged and spit it out.

He needs to get 4 teaspoons of the children's stuff otherwise, and it gets to be really expensive that way.

I have a pill cutter and I cut them up, but a gel tab...I don't know.

Have him open real wide and place the pill as far back on his tongue as he can (without gagging).  Then have him drink an entire glass of water.  Chug, no dainty sips.  Like he's trying to win a contest.

It takes a bit of practice.

dd has been an expert pill taker since about 5.  We had a specific med that was only available in a bitter nasty pill.  We made it a game.  I'd set a timer, fill the biggest glass of water and yell "ready, set, go"

You could also have him practice with jelly beans.

I'm not sure. I've never seen anything labeled jr out here.
