Teenager's house party busted by dad's energy-monitoring app
While at a dinner party nearly 500 miles away from home, engineer David Rowe decided to check on his home's energy usage using Fluksometer, an Android app. The app showed a surprising amount of energy usage for an empty home, an amount consistent with lights and an air conditioner being on.
Rowe called his daughter to see if she knew anything about the energy drain. She initially feigned ignorance, and later send her father a text message saying that the air conditioner had indeed been left on. The energy usage of the house dropped accordingly.
Case closed? Not quite — when Rowe returned home from his vacation, he found the tell-tale red plastic cups of a party in the trash. Confronted with the evidence, his daughter confessed to the party.
