What grade and/or subject level does everyone teach? I'm a Texas high school teacher teaching Algebra 1, 2 and Geometry. It would be cool to hear what kind of math teacher everyone else is!

THis will be my fourth year teaching. My first three years I taught 6th grade math, 7th grade math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I worked for a private school, so all three years I had 6 preps a day...whew...I am so glad that I am not going to have that any more.
Next year, I am moving to public school. This means more money and less preps. I will be teaching 8th grade math.
The kids will definitely be different in the new school, but I am looking forward to the new adventure.
BTW, I live in San Antonio.

My first year teaching I taught at a 2A public school in Medina, TX. I was basically the ONLY math teacher for the high school and had to teach 4 preps and was always super busy- so I can't imagine 6!! That's crazy.
I haven't taught in a private school but I can tell you that public schools are kinda different... seems to be a lot less discipline but hopefully you'll have a good principal that will nip this... mine doesn't even know what discipline means right now and life is hectic at school to say the least!

You should look into PBS (positive behavior supports-i believe)....we've been learning about it in one of my classes (i'm still in college) and it seems that if the whole school jumps on it its a really good thing for discipline! It only takes a few people to make a huge change!

Hey, I'm Jenn. I have been teaching for 8 years and specialize in math. I teach at a small 2A school in NE Texas and I teach 4th grade math and science.
Just a side note - I see a few of you also teach in Texas. Let me stress that although it doesn't always seem like it, I swear, we are trying our best to teach them the basics before they get to ya'll. LOL

So I guess you've been annoyed like all the rest about not teaching the basics! I totally believe elem. teachers are doing their best and even where I'm at the younger kids are doing great in learning what they need to. It seems to be, here in Kerrville at least, that once they hit about 6th grade (middle school years) that somehow someone is slacking on the job and they're coming to the high school way under-prepared for even the most basic math. It's sad, but thanks for being one of the ones who CARES and does their best in educating these kids!!!
