I know ever one's story is different, but I was just curious how long it took.  If you could please post what state you live in and the amount of time (besides voting).  That way we can see state to state what the waiting time is.

Thanks ladies.

It took about 7 or 8 months only because my son wasn't walking yet when we started EI. They had to wait for him to walk well before they diagnosed him.

They said they now have a new type of diagnosing so walking wouldn't be needed anymore. This way they can diagnose much sooner.

I live in CT.

We live in Hawaii, but we got our diagnosis through the army hospital here. My dd's pedi said there was a problem in the middle of feb, and she was seen by dev. peds. and diagnosed at the end of April. I am not sure how it works for civilian hospitals here.

so if a child is ASD and they never walk (i have met some severe ASD children in wheel chairs) they would not have been diagnosed at all?  yes i know you said it has changed, but that is ridiculous.

Once I decided to pursue it, only a few months.  There was a long time before that I thought something was wrong but didn't seek DX.

They likely would have be referred to another place. My son was physically able to walk, he just didn't want to.

They originally came to evaluate him before he walked. They decided to continue services and wait to officially diagnose him until he was walking.

MN and took only 4mos for the official dx. That was with the help of ds's awesome pediatrician who pushed for a quicker date so he could get services quicker.
