See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
I joined this group because my ds, who turned 3 in April, has Fragile X and I'm looking for support. My dh and I had our ds diagnosed around sept of last year. We started OT in our home once a week, then in Jan he started school to help him. I've looked online and can't seem to find any information other than the fragile X website, but to me its not answering questions. I want to know what can I do to help? There is a communication barrier. Our ds uses more words since he has started school, but everything is still one word and not consistant. When he is thirsty he just hollars "aahh" and if I ask him "thirsty?" and he is thirsty, then he will respond "thirsty" or if its because he's hungry I'll ask "eat?" and he'll repsond "eat" or if he has a dirty diaper I have to ask "dirty?", etc. 95% of the time words are not his first choice in communication. Although school is doing well, he only has 2 weeks left until summer vacation and I know he will regress and I have no idea what I can do to help him. We read all the time, but I just don't know what he takes in? I have been able to teach him to put his trash in the trashcan and dishes in the sink and make animal sounds (sometimes), I've been working on colors for months now and nothing. From what I seem to understand is that these children learn differently, but I don't know how? I wish I had some direction to go to. And just some more information:(
