Autism has a look

So, describe your look. What does it look like in your household?

What is your child's "box" - what does their box look like on the inside, and what do they look like on the outside.

We all get the same label - yet the contents of our box all look so different. So, share the contents. :)

Box as in behaviors, like, dislikes, how it manifests in them, describe their presonality.... just... them. who they are, how things manifest. etc.

haha okay...

so lets see...

This is my son. On the outside, he looks like a normal, typical kid that most people wouldn't recongnize as being autistic off a picture. (well unless you knew what to look for.)

On the inside, he's creative, intelligent, verbal, and has a lot of good points, talents and is a very atypical thinker on his logic. Which makes him really interesting and fun to be around.

He also throws tantrums. he cries 2-3x a day on average. He's unable to let an activity go that he wants to do, even when you try to redirect him onto another activity he likes to do.

He likes ot be helpful and learn new things - but he processes information slowly and has trouble retaining something that he doesn't do 1000x in a row.

He has a great memory - but it's for facts, pictures, fictional thinks he reads, and movies. He does not easily grasp simple, daily tasks.

He's a wonderful boy, who's beautiful and kind - but is emotionally about the age of a toddler in a lot of ways and will mature slower than his peers.

ETc etc.

Just, your kid's version, you know?

We all get the same label, but it looks different for all of them.

Oh my sweet boy! He is so loving, especially to his little sister. He's very emotional and will cry at the drop of a hat:(. You have to watch him around anything mechanical because he will tear it apart. He's a collector of all antiques. He has my pantry stocked with all his collections. Jacob is like a jack-n-the-box at bedtime, do frustrating! He loves coasters because he wants to design them when he grows up. He knows the velocity, the height, how they run, ect. And will tell you a million times. He never gets jokes or sarcasm right off, but if everyone laughs he will repeat it forever until you want to make him mute! He will ask the same question a million times in a million ways. Grr! He's very smart, but studies everything before trying it. Talking, walking, potty training, riding a bike. Jacob is terrified of balls, heights, bugs, loud sounds and lots more. His meltdowns are not tantrums, it is a pitiful cry like a toddler. The only way to calm him is rub his back, which I do around 20 times a day.
Outside: Jacob is a 12 yr old boy. Short blonde hair, olive skin, dark brown eyes, 5'6" with oversized feet (size 11 men's), thin, has a tiny button nose and the most beautiful large pouty lips. Everyone who meets him in person says he's too pretty to be a boy!

the first picture, is what i see, his meltdowns, (reason in picture was because something went wrong (what i do not know) when he was lining up his cars) the 2nd picture, is what the rest of the world sees a handsome perfect little boy.

A typical day for us is jude playing with his cars (lining them up ect) melting down for no apperent reason, getting overly excited if he eats a bite of food, but typically him refuses and screaming about it, him getting upset about almost anything, and us just trying to keep it together.

now dont get me wrong, their are good days which you guys have heard about before, but this is a typical day for us,

however the world see's him, as a sweet perfect little boy who has nothing wrong except hes spoiled.

Jude is very smart, and he loves to be a little helper, cleaning up, putting things in the laundry, anything that has to do with cleaning, he loves. He can comprehend just about anything you say to him, he just is unable to communicate it back to you.

Well to the world, my DD is an overly eager child-giggles funny at things that aren't, invades your space and talks too loudly. But she is very pretty so some people seem to overlook it.

Her box is Skylanders and Wii, her Webkinz and build-a-bears. She wanted her baby brother so badly and can be so good with him-always trying to make him laugh. She likes making sure everyone is ok. She is very sweet and funny and super smart.

On the outside the world sees 2 rambunctious 3 year olds with super cute identical faces who are always matching. They don't see what I see. The pain I see in them when they try to express their emotions or when they can't tell me their wants and needs. I would say about 90% of their meltdowns comes from failure to be able to express themselves.

izaiah is so loving and protective over his brother. Whenever he hears him crying he rushes right over to see what's wrong.

Dezmond loves hugs and kisses. Right now I'm hiding in the bathroom because he wouldn't get off me. Not even exaggerating, he's been kissing me since he's been home from school. He doesn't just kiss you though, he grabs the back of your head, pulling your hair. It hurts! I love it and never want him to stop just sometimes I need a break lol.
