Needing advice- potty training related
He's finally aware of when he needs to go poo but not pee. He just learned how to talk about four or five
months ago. He can tell me "poo poo" but doesn't actually go for another half hour or more.
My mom has told me to try to make him feel like "a big boy" and what not, but he doesn't understand. I've tried explaining it to him in simple terms but he doesn't get it.
I've tried taking him to the potty at 1 hour intervals, 30 minute intervals or even 15 minute intervals. I have him sit there for 5 minutes and he gets a reward (m&m) for sitting on the potty. He has only peed in the potty maybe once. Today I've even tried having him run naked just to get him used to not having the diaper and to help the transition. He told me "poo poo" and begged for a diaper. He just peed on the couch and on the side of the coffee table, not even attempting to head to the bathroom- just went wherever he was and just stared at it. I have kept him in my sight all day, a timer going so he can hear when it's time to go potty. I have no idea what else to do!
I'm in desperate need of suggestions because I'm getting ridicule from family for not having him potty trained and for their suggestions not working. None of them understand him or why their suggestions aren't working. I'm so tired of hearing "well it worked for so and so". Help!
