Excited/nervous for tomorrow night! (UPDATE)
During my brief stint in therapy (I quit because I don't have enough time), my therapist suggested I get out and make friends. It's been a month in the making, but I'm going to have my first blind date w/ other autism moms tomorrow night. I joined a facebook group for moms in my area and a subgroup for developmental disorders, and I posted an invite for people to join me at Pump It Up tomorrow evening for Sensory Night. It's for autism families only. So Aly gets to have fun jumping and I get to meet Moms like you lovely ladies.
One of the girls going is actually the mom of a kid who was in group therapy with Aly through EI -- so Aly already knows one kid -- but only my mom knows the mom since she was the one to take Aly to group.
I'm so exctied but also nervous. I hope I can make at least one new friend!
UPDATE:
OMG, my back is KILLING me! Aly wanted me to do absolutely everything with her, and let's just say I'm not a kid anymore! I need to see a chiropractor stat! Plus, I'm totally bummed, the one woman I wanted to get to know better did show up, but her son has recently started having major issues with noise, so the sound of machines running giant blow-up equipment scared him. He wouldn't take his hands off his ears, and once she took him out to calm down, he wouldn't come back in. Will have to find something low-key to do with her another time. He is the boy who was in group therapy with Aly and my mom knows the woman from going to all the sessions with Aly. She's the closest to my age of those who showed up and seems really nice. Drat on loud equipment! Oh well, Aly had fun.
Well the group on facebook is called "Mombook" and it's just for moms in my area. The place we are going is called Pump It Up, and once a month they have a sensory night for autism families only. After joining the group, I posted the event and a couple people responded they'd come. I hope I like them!
Quoting TheCrooners:
I need more info. I'd really love to organize something like that. The homeschool group here isn't active and not very welcoming. It sounds like an amazing opportunity for you. Congrats on being proactive and getting out there. Please give us updates after you all get together!
So, I'm impressed. Glad Aly had fun and I know what you mean about not young anymore (although you are!)
maybe try a playground on a cooler day, aiden hates the noise of the blow up bouncies too that's cool aly had fun and you tried it! try again katie!!
