We think our son has asperger syndrome...I'm here for answers!
Hi...I'm Beth, and I joined cafe mom to hopefully get some insight and answers to our many many questions about children with asperger syndrome. Our son Grant is 12 now...he has NOT been diagnosed with this disorder, but from everything I've been reading, Grant displays MOST of these symptoms. I hope someone may be able to point us in a direction to begin seeking a professional diagnosis, and to help us try to understand and respond properly to what is going in Grant's little head. Yesterday was the first day of school down here in Florida...Grant is in 7th grade in public school. I've been working for weeks to have EVERYTHING perfect for his first day...He's given me more grief for bothering him with "school stuff"....I have to be sooooo careful about introducing new things: IE: new backpack, lunch box, etc. well.....He decided 5 minutes before bus time that he wasn't happy with the backpack I bought for him (even though I showed it to him 2 weeks ago)...He was angry, and shoved everything in his old backpack from last year...but he forgot his schedule! OMG! Realizing this just as the bus pulled up! GREAT! He was livid...so in a mad dash, my husband followed the bus to school to give Grant the schedule...otherwise, things might have turned pretty ugly. This is just one currant example of the things we are experiencing with Grant. Does this behavior sound familiar to any of you? Please help me! Thanks for reading, Beth
