If she gets SSI she should get Medicaid.

SSI means straight medicaid. Contact your local Children's Medical Services that deals with special needs kids. They will get your daughter assigned to a nurse care coordinator once she's registered. She will take care of all the Medicaid filings and set you up with a network of specialists.

Get on it ASAP, sometimes it is a wait. Try to negotiate with your daughter's doctors and therapists. Medicaid will pay for billing upto 3 months before approval. She is automatically approved because of SSI.

Man, private HMOs, those copays add up to quite a bit.

Since she qualified for SSI, she will qualify for Medicaid automatically. You need to contact your local social services office to get her enrolled once again under the disabled child program. It will be free for her.
