Hello,

I am a single mom of an almost three year old little boy. I think my son has Asperger's so  have started doing research on line and now I have all this information and really have not idea how to process it. I'm sorry if i am saying or doing everything wrong on here. I want to get him tested, so was wondering if anyone might be abl,e to tell me how I can go about doing that? I live in California and really have no idea where to go from now.

Welcome! Have you talked to his pediatrician about your concerns? He is old enough that you could also go to your local school district. For us, our pediatrician recommended us to go to the university here to get our son diagnosed. He was 2 at the time, and qualified for Early Intervention services through the state. It was a 5 hour process with four different professionals that diagnosed him. But with my son, it was very obvious. He was so close to turning 3, that we went ahead and got him enrolled at the school district's preschool. With Aspergers, it can be a bit vague. You may have to try several times before you get an answer that you are satisfied with. So talk to the pediatrician and contact the local school district. You can also contact your state's autism society, or look up autism resources through your state on google. Good luck!

Welcome to the group! You can learn more about Asperger Syndrome at http://www.autism-society.org/ and http://www.aspergersyndrome.org/. I recommend finding a specialist in Autism to diagnose him. You can find one through the Autism Society state chapter or Autism Speaks (http://www.aspergersyndrome.org/).

Hi momma and welcome to the group. There is a website called autism speaks where you can find doctors in your area. You could also call your state early intervention services since your son is not 3 yet. They can come do an evaluation on him. If they see some concerns then maybe they will recommend he get further testing
