Welcome to the board! You made a great first step in joining this group in helping Ethan reach his full potential in life. Ethan qualifies for Special Education services (http://www.wrightslaw.com/) for free through the public school system, and all you need to do is write your local school and request an evaluation for Special Education services. Joining a local support group is great for locating local resources, and you can find one through Easter Seals (http://www.easterseals.org/), Autism Society (http://www.autism-society.org/), and Autism Speaks (http://www.autismspeaks.org/). You can find activities for him to do through Special Olympics (http://www.specialolympics.org/), Variety Club (http://www.usvariety.org/), TOPSoccer (http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/programs/topsoccer/), Challenger Little League (http://www.littleleague.org/learn/about/divisions/challenger.htm), and TheARC (http://www.thearc.org/).

You need to update them Monday about his new diagnosis that it can be updated in his school records and his IEP for classification. I recommend bringing or sending a copy to the school so that it could be a permanent part of his file.

Welcome, I have a nine year old son who has aspergers/learning diasabilities. I think it is wonderful that you are going to be a stay at home mom, it will give you the time to give Ethan all the extra attention he may need. It isn't an easy time when your child is first diagnosed, I went though all the feelings of grief so if you are having a hard time accepting it don't feel alone. This is a great place to get to know other moms who know exactly what you are going through. It has made a huge difference in the way I feel about my son's diagnosis and I have learned so much from everyone...  XO
