so my son 8 was diagnosed in dec last year with aspergers now he is very high functioning so today i took him to a new therapist because i was looking for something a little closer to home and she said she doesnt think he has aspergers but she thinks its just social anxiety and his akwardness comes from his giftedness because he is in the gifted program at school and she doesnt think he needs any services so now i am really confused and am not sure what to do

I would seek a second opinion if you had a quality diagnosis in December with proper testing.

From my own personal experience, not all psychologists or medical doctors are not familar with every disability out there. You might want to see if you can find another therapist for him. I have found the best way for him to develop friendships and be in a good social setting for myself is to be in a club, sport, or activity group that matches my interests because I will have something in common to talk about with them. I have better conversations with people when we have something in common. At school, you might want to see about getting him social skills therapy added to his IEP. Did he have an ADOS test done? I would not trust someone to just observe a kid once and say he does/doesn't have autism. Its not just an opinion, that's why formal testing is done.

I agree here.  My son's very first ABA therapist didn't think he had Autism.
