Anyone else not very good at taking care of THEMSELVES??

Posted by   + Show Post

I think I may have made the wrong choice.  So, I woke up this morning with an ear ache, but kind of ignored it.  A couple hours later both ears hurt and itched.  But, school was cancelled today as I'm in the -50 or something like that wind chill area.  That means kids are home, and I need to be here to take care of them, can't go out to doctor, and it's way to cold so who wants to go out today.  So take some Tylenol and keep on moving.  Hubs gets home later than I thought he would and by then urgent cares are closed.  I start googling ear infections and have some heat on it now.  But oh my, it is getting worse.  Can barely open my mouth without my jaw hurting, both ears are throbbing, , itch. whole head just hurts.  Whoops.  My kids I would have been bundled up and run out there in a heartbeat, but I thought I could get by until tomorrow when kids would be in school - now that is cancelled too.  Augh, messed up.  Anyone know any at home remedies for ear infections?  The heat is not doing it!  Anyone else not very good at taking care of themselves?

Earaches are the worst, believe me I know.  I suffered with them as a child and as an adult my ear drum has irrupted 4 times .  No one can understand the pain until they have experienced a bad ear ache.  GO TO the emergency room.  You cannot treat this yourself.  You will need antibiotics, ear drops and pain medicine.  Can someone help you with the kiddos tomorrow.  I feel so bad for you but you must get this treated.  Pain will get so bad your face will start to disfigure.

I did make it in to urgent care today and got drops and antibiotics, just tylonal for pain but man can you tell when that wears off.  Holy cow!  Hurts to chew, turn my head, hear, talk, forget about laying down.  But I have 1 round of antibiotics in and 2 rounds of drops, so hoping I'll get feeling better fast.  If it wasn't for such the bitter cold I think I would have been in sooner...lesson learned.

You are right, we all put ourselves last, but we gotta figure out how to turn that around!

8 weeks of ear issues?!  Holy moly.  My ears are throbbing, itching, and stinging, along with reduced hearing.  It hurts my entire head, hurts to chew, or turn my neck, just ick!  There is no way I could have lasted 8 weeks.  Mine's a double ear infection too.  Just hoping these meds kick in fast.  I want to be able to lay my head down on a pillow again and sleep!  But I get everyone has different symptoms.  I'll cross my fingers you don't have any permanent damage!

Funny thing is, i finally broke down and went to the Dr yesterday after roughly 8 weeks of ear issues..... double ear infection...fluid build up.  mine didnt hurt much. I have to see a specialist.  hopefully no permnant damage.  I am terrible at taking care of myself. I have tostart being better at taking care of me bc i was recently dx as a diabetic. I just don't know how.  My chainof care priorities goes..Kids,Husband,Dogs  Work, family/ Myself.  Its so hard for me to shuffle it around.  I know if I dont take care of myself, i wont be able to care for the rest.

No way! I've never heard of that. Interesting...
Quoting ineedcoffeemom: I have no idea if you have this around and don't k ow if you'd buy some cigarettes just for this but I used to have bad ear infections as a kid and my mom blew smoke in my ear. It really took away the pain and I think the smoke is supposed to slow down the growth of the bad bacteria.

Let this be a lesson to us all. We are needed and if we can't do it for ourselves, our kids count on us...the balance is so hard. Hope you are feeling better real soon. So sorry, ear pain is terrible. I struggle with this issue every single day. This would be a good general post!  XO

Not great.  I'm using all the meds as directed, but sounds like ear pain gets worse before better..great!  When the tylonal wears off it is terrible.  They are draining though - yuck.  Taking that as a sign maybe it is getting better.  Hard to hear out of either one right now with the fluid though.  Hoping today will be a turning point.  I'd love to lay down and sleep again!
