My ASD daughter LOVES our 100 lb dog who is part-time indoor/outdoors (I would have him 100% indoors except hubby is a bit of a germaphobe). She asks to bring him inside and she loves to get him snacks and train him to fetch, sit and follow her. She also will sit and talk to him and luckily he is pretty tolerant of her trying to ride him like a horse! I highly recommend a dog for your ASD child particularly as they will follow instructions better than more independent cats and can take any rough housing better as well!

We have 2 cats and a wiener dog. Morgan is responsible for feeding , watering and taking the dog out to potty. Logan pays them no mind. He could care less but does get giggling when the dog "sings".

Be very careful letting you dd ride the dog. I know someone who's dog had to be put down because the two year old "rode" her and her back went out. They paid a fortune for specialist and rehab and still ended up having to put her to sleep.

I got a chihuahua/yorkhire terrier mix for my sons 3rd bday. Big mistake, should of gone with a bigger breed. Abel has a hard time not treating it like a toy, and the high pitched squealing he does around it doesnt help either. But he's gentle and sweet with bigger dogs, so I think its just the size and age of his pup thats the issue.

Still mourning the loss of my little girl pup... She was 13... When Im ready for another dog, I KNOW it will be great for Sam.. But I need a little more time for my heart to heal.

We have a cat and fish right now. DS loves caring for them and is very gentle with our cat, unlike his little sister who loves the cat but isn't as quite as gentle. Both kids love taking care of them though. I think a dog would be good for the both of them, but I don't think our cat would do well with a dog. Plus I don't think we could afford one right now. But definitely something we've thought about.

We have a 7 year old Pekingese/Lhasa Apso mix; my son loves her to pieces. She likes to play but is also good about getting hugged.

We have a small dog Liam loves to torture. I don't allow it btw but he tries. The dog loves and hates Liam. Loves him cause he is constant feeding her table food and hates him for always scaring him. Like this weekend he got a balloon for his bday. He likes to pull it and toss it and move it all over. The dog hates this. She will "tell" on him by barking loudly at him. He loves to make her bark so he just does it more.
