My 32 yr old husband just came to terms with being on the spectrum. The best bet is to explain quality of life and coping with stims. Music, gum and exercise helped my husband. But he couldn't deny his issues with our son having the same behavioral problems and being diagnosed. Just be a listening ear. It took my husband 4 yrs to accept his.

I'm quite positive my dh is on the spectrum but he's never going to admit it. All you can do is read about the symptoms and then be understanding.
