Boys are home not feeling well so I took a day off to be with them and caught up on making laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent. The dishwasher detergent is something I have never tried (homemade)

Do you ladies make your cleaners etc ?

1 mom liked this

I've thought about it but to be honest my dh buys storage units and I get a ton of cleaners out of them. It's something we can't resell and I'm sure not pitching it out.

I wouldn't toss it out either. What is the coolest thing you have found ? What is the oddest ? (In the units)

The variety is endless. We've found the normal stuff like keepsakes, photo albums, etc and of course the porn. The weirdest for me would be the gay porn. Sorry just not into it. All porn gets pitched or burned because we won't support it and we've lost a LOT of money by doing that.

The best units we've ever had were ones that I ended up buying and my dh wasn't there. One of those units had these big black cases in them and I seriously doubt that anyone had any idea what they might contain but I did. They ended up having a beautiful rosewood marimba in it. That alone made us a profit on the unit. To top it off it had TONS of fabric and yarn in it as well as gold coins, Franklin Mint stuff, furniture, etc. My dh thought I was nuts when I got excited about the yarn but there were 2 BIG boxes of Rabbit (not sheep) Mohair yarn in it. Sold it on eBay for over $200!

There's also tons of meds in the units. We could have made a pretty penny on those as well if we were into it but needless to say we've lost money there as well. lol

Buying storage units definately isn't for the faint of heart. You really have to toughen yourself up to pitching baby pictures, wedding albums, etc. To taking the photos out of albums so you can sell the albums. You go after every penny you can and most times you can make a profit but there are times you lose money as well. It's nothing like Storage Wars shows. I've yet to see them sort thru bags of TRASH that were stored in the unit or school papers, etc. They also don't price stuff realistically. You also need a place to move the stuff and also for the trash. Out of a unit you can have one of the small dumpster full of trash and we sell everything we can. That's why we have the $1 Flea market sales to get rid of all the "junk" that we won't pitch. Figure someone might need a new funnel, wooden spoons, etc.

I don't make our own. But I use alot of vinegar and baking soda to clean. I have thought about it though... I have alot of recipes saved to my computer for laundry soap, dish soap, and cleaning sprays but I just haven't gotten around to trying any... :/
