How do I deal with this the best way?? Help help?

I love crafting. Its a relaxing hobby and I gave up on so much of it for one simple reason: I don't have enough room for the finished projects!

I want them to find homes. And what I've discovered is that trying to make any hobby into a business ends up draining the fun out of it. I get depressed because I am not good at marketing. And I watch my fellow crafty mommies trying to sell things, some of them I only know from Cafemom but I am still sympathetic to their plight. It just doesn't look fun unless you're successful and it seems to be luck of the draw.

So what I'm asking is, how doI find homes for my crafts without literally giving them away? I don't want to profit either.

Help?

2 moms liked this

It all depends on what you do for crafts. I donate my knitted projects to several organizations. I also do not really care for the selling of items. I would much rather just create and see things end up being loved but I want to know they will be used and loved. My teddy bears go to foster homes, blankets usually end up in ambulances or police cars for hurt kids, baby hats go to the hospitals, and scarves/hats/gloves go to shelters. Yeah I knit a lot. I knit too much which is how we ended up giving so much away. But in the end it goes to benefit my community and I know it is loved and appreciate. Oh and cat toys go to the cat shelter that we volunteer at. Forgot that one.

I'm slightly confused by the last line...You do not want profit for your projects, but you don't want to give them away.

Are you looking for answers on how to find room within your own place or are you looking to share? (But sharing is giving,so...)

We gift alot. We also get request for certain colors and stuff witch is fun cause it is for friends and family. We take our whole lot of stuff we have when we visit family and let them have what they want. Lol we keep ALOT of it cause we just love it all. Lol

I guess I was hoping for a happy medium. The things I make aren't exactly useful like blankets or hats. I make wooden crafts and jewelry.

Could you donate them to non profits who could use them in auctions? I have a friend with a very rare form of cancer. She had a fundraiser recently where people could donate and then the items were sold. All the money went to her treatment.

That's a really good idea, I hadn't thought of them being useful in that way. Thanks!

What about taking them to a senior citizens home, I'm sure they would love to have something hand made.

Hi hillz :D
I could help you with some of the marketing aspects so that you can make something off of them. Cody(Monster-Mom) is really knowledgable about marketing and doing it right. She could definitely help!
