Day One: Piano to Desk conversion!

So this is my dead piano, Old Chap.
His pedals don't really work, he can't hold tuning (so things don't sound all that nice), and some keys don't ring, but only give a little "plink."
Betsy is being dropped off tomorrow to relieve him of duty, but I just couldn't stand the thought of destroying him after so many years of loyal service; we bought him USED when I was very young, and this is the piano I learned to play on, starting at age six.
The plan is to gut him, then sanding, staining, and finally being repurposed as a desk!
Here's today's progress (pics in replies). Ollie took a good nap, so I was able to make some great progress!

Thanks! I'm going to be bugging some family members to help me with the staining once I get it sanded down... And then I think I'm going to use the bottom front panel as the desktop surface (the area that it originally covered is going to be filled in with shelves/cubbies).

Oooo all great ideas! I was also thinking of cutting the keys down (removing the wood arms so they're just the black & white pieces) and then mounting them straight to the wall in a fun arrangement.

Quoting MamaFrankie:

You can def make a frame for a mirror out of those keys or even make a frame out of the bass strings!!! ahh my creative ideas are FUELED from this LOL

I like to think of it as a rebirth =)
With all these projects, he won't just be hanging around, he'll be all over the house!
