Baby rag quilt question??

I'm going to surprise a friend of mine, and make her a rag quilt for her baby instead of a crocheted one..

I found some adorable fabric yesterday at Jo Anns... Before I start it though I need opinions...

Would you use batting in a babies rag quilt? Or no?

The little boy is supposed to arrive in June, so it will be fairly warm out when he comes , if that helps?

I can always crochet a light blanket for him as well...

I would use a flanning sheet for batting in a rag quilt.
