It's Time to Upcycle!
Try to reuse and re-purpose existing items rather than trashing them.  You can take used shirts, sweaters, crayons and other ordinary items and turn them into creative gifts and works of art!

Here is how you can make a bird feeder out of a gallon jug.
This activity will not only be fun for the whole family, but it will also help teach your kids about upcycling!

Materials Needed:
Empty 1 gallon plastic jug, Marker, Scissors,Twine or heavy string, Miscellaneous items to use as decoration (fabric, stickers, glue, etc), Bird Food

Directions to make the bird feeder:

  • Thoroughly clean a used gallon container. Draw a circle with a marker and then cut out the center.
  • Poke a hole in the cap, thread the twine through the hole, and double knot the twine underneath the cap (you can also tie the string to the handle).
  • Once your bird feeder is finished, have your kids decorate it and fill the bird feeder with food!

Can you think of some ways you could re-purpose and reuse items in your home rather than throw them away?

I love to up cycle! We either reuse or donate(clothes, household items, books) almost everything! My daughter is getting some dresses for the spring/summer made out of my old shirts, I have a bag of yarn scraps that will be turned into a blanket, and fabric scraps for a quilt, etc.

All of my Mon-stors are made with recycled fabric!! :) All the scraps from the big Mon-stors are used to make small Mon-stors. All the scraps from those to make stuffed monsters and all of those scraps are used for stuffing!

I love this bird feeder craft : ).

I upcycle all worn out clothes by cutting them up into rags to use around the house.  I keep all glass jars from food and use them for other things.

Baby jars make awesome hardware holders...  I'm on Pintrest to get all kinds of ideas to reuse things.
