Looking for a hobby. Is knitting hard to teach yourself?

I am looking for a hobby, and thought maybe I'd try knitting. Is it hard to teach yourself? What sites would you recommend to point me in the right direction? Or any other ideas for a hobby? Something inexpensive.

I know for ME it's not an easy thing to learn. I crochet. If you want to try knitting check our youtube for videos.

I taught myself by watching videos on Youtube. It was pretty easy to pick up on.

I would encourage you to try crochet before knitting.

I tried to knit and my Mom tried to teach me but I'm left handed 100% and it was just disaster. I can crochet like a champ tho. I like to sew and that can be as cheap or expensive as you want to get.

I taught my four year olds to knit so its not that hard. Just go step by step. Youtube videos are fabulous for it.

I love to crochet, but I don't know how to knit.

I recently taught myself to knit using youtube. I originally crochet so making the switch was super difficult for me. I have the knit stitch down and am working on the purl stitch. From what I understand those are the 2 main stitches to use.

I prefer how crochet looks to how knitting looks. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but my knitting looks messy and bulky even with even stitches. :-/
