While I am doing work with my 1st grader, I am going to need to have things ready to entertain my 2 year old.

A few things I plan to have:

puzzles
books
counting bears
coloring books
pencil/paper
color wonder markers/paper
lacing beads
stacking blocks
mega blocks
felt board
dry erase board/marker
chalkboard/chalk
shape board

Any suggestions??

Those are great ideas!

My son loved an empty yogurt container (cleaned)....with a slot cut in the top with poker chips.

My youngest was 3 when we started homeschooling-he has his own spot in the classroom to play freely if he wants 5th photo here and sometimes he works along side big brother at the table. Sometimes I set him up on ABCMouse.com to work or let him watch an educational show while I'm busy with big brother.

The key was being very consistant with letting him know he couldn't come in the classroom and be loud or silly or anything. If he came in and wouldn't be quite, I'd make him leave. It took him about 5-6 weeks but he finally understood that the classroom wasn't for playing and chatting. (the reason it took so long is we don't always use the classroom-we school wherever and use many non-traditional methods)

i always had a very large piece of paper on the floor on a large piece of cardboard with crayons and the younger kids would color on or scribble on that for a while,

also made them a town on the paper, drew in the roads, drew in houses so they would take their little cars and try to drive on the roads

heres some ideas also  http://homemade-school.blogspot.com/search/label/younger%20kids
