As a child, I just remember having to chase them around the barnyard trying to get them in the coop every night. It depends on how old they are how much work they'll require. Here's a couple websites that might give you some info:
There's a bunch more websites out there - google "how to care for chickens".
Hope this helps!
We had chickens in my teen years... they were so easy... we occasionally raked the pen, had a huge bucket/pan thing for water that we just filled with the hose and we dropped pellet things daily... they were sooo easy! The only thing that was difficult at first was keeping other critters out of the pen, we had to keep adding extra wire, etc... finally got it right though!!!
thank you both! I think it would be great for the girls, as well as for our health to be able to have fresh eggs and know where they're coming from too. I'd love a milk cow. For now I'm on the search for a local farm that sells it raw. It's illegal so they have to do it secretly. haha
lol Good Luck!!! Btw eggs are soooo much more yummy than store bought!
*longing sigh* I sooooooooo look forward to having chickens- hahahaha, it's TRUE! I also want some goats!

me too! And the diversity is rewarding as well :)
I wish we could have chickens... :( Can't in city limits here.....
Chickens are in my 5 year plan! (Hopefully much sooner though)First we want to get a camper, so we can make it a point to do something one weekend a month just to reconnect with fun stuff. We have 10 cats (and I'm sure I will adopt more before then...we take in strays and get them fixed and get their shots) I need to cat proof whatever I do with chickens!
I'm an anti-mainstream but not crunchy, homeschooling, big family wanting (but TTC for over 2 years), Christian, southern, weight watching, gentile disciplining, scrapbooking, blogging Momma http://mommatoafireboy.blogspot.com/ And I probably need more coffee!
