Homeschool kids and Public School Kids...

Do you ever find yourself worrying or feeling not so great about your homeschooling kids hanging out with kids that go to Public School?

So since my kids have been home and out of school they have changed soooo much mentally, emotionally, they are just such better, happier little guys.  With that said... I sometimes find myself worrying when they spend time with their public school kid friends.   Example.. when they started camp... I found myself worrying about them being made fun of, bullied, or just picking up bad habbits.  LOL  Maybe this sounds silly and I don't mean to sound mean as we all know it mostly goes back to parenting, etc... but I just find myself worrying about these things.  When you are a homeschoolers its just not something you deal with anymore.  Even when our homeschool co-op group gets together.. its a huge variety of ages and ALL the kids get along.. its really amazing!  We parents are always so amazed at the difference...  Am I alone here?

We just made friends with an awesome public school family!  They are so much more friendly than so many home schooling families we have met in our area!!  There are some "different" kind of home schoolers around here it seems.    I think it really depends on the individual family as to how the kids are.

momversuswild- you are prob so right!  All depends on the family... I guess around here we just haven't had the best experiences...   Don't mean to lump all into a group, sorry if that's how it came out :(

I do understand what you are saying though.  There are several public school families that come to mind that I wouldn't want my kids to hang out with on an ongoing basis.  Or some for even an hour.  However, usually with homeschooling families, it is the parents that just seem so.....I don't know...snooty maybe??  I mean, I understand wanting to keep our kids from growing up too fast, or being subjected to bullying and the "socialising" that public school forces...but really you do have to let your children experience the world.  We just choose to walk beside them and help them process the bad stuff - not hide their eyes and ears to it and try to create a bubble for them.

I worry more about my kids being around kids who are not disciplined and taught about God as ours are... they pick up bad habits from those kids (homeschooled or not).  I think the parenting has more to do with it than the schooling...

Wow... really?  Snooty parents?  It has been sooOOOOOoo the opposite for us.  All the homeschoolers we've met and spend time with are so friendly, open, and relaxed... letting their kids experience so many things, no bubbles, that's for sure!  I guess its just all about the individual LOL

Maybe it is all about our area.  We have many doctor's wives that homeschool because of peanut allergies.  LOL  Nothing against doctor's wives...but these seemed to be up on their horses looking down at the rest of us middle class folk.  ;)

Ahh... yes I was going to say that... maybe area... ?

I also want to say maybe I should have worded things a little differently...

Its not schooling that causes the kids to be the way we've experienced... but I believe maybe the pressures of being in the "in" crowd or one kid may start to tease another and the others follow to be cool.... I just notice a huge difference in the behaviors of children (towards their peers) that go to school vs. those that don't...atleast around here.  And I see a huge behavioral change with kids that were in school and are now homeschooled, they take a complete 180 shortly after being removed from the environment!  So just with what I've seen I find myself worrying when my kids are spending a lot of time around children that go to public school.  Maybe its my own hang up.. who knows.   Don't mean to offend anyone!!!  :)

Honestly, I can't comment just yet.  This will be our first year, and I haven't met any homeschooling parents in person locally.  I feel different than everyone I meet really.  I just don't fit in here.  LOL
