Just want to make sure all my GA gals know about the new booster seat laws that take effect today.

Effective July 1, 2011
Children under age 8 must be properly secured in an approved car
seat or booster seat while riding in:
 Passenger automobiles, Vans, and Pickup trucks
The car seat and/or booster seat must:
 Be in the rear seat (some exceptions apply)
 Be appropriate for the child’s weight & height
 Meet all federal standards
 Be installed and used according to the manufacturer’s
 Children under age 8 whose height is over 4’9” or 57”
 Parent or Guardian has a written statement from a
Physician that the child has a physical or medical
condition that prevents placing or restraining them as
required by law
A child under age 8 and weighing at least 40 pounds is not exempt
from the law. They may use a lap belt only instead of a car seat or
booster seat when:
 The vehicle is not equipped with lap & shoulder belts;
 Excluding the driver’s seat, all seating positions with
lap & shoulder belts are being used to restrain other
children. In this case, the placement of car seats /
boosters seats should be evaluated to determine if
they can be repositioned to provide the best
protection for all children being transported.
1st conviction – not more than $50
2nd & subsequent convictions – not more than $100
Points assessed against violator’s driver’s license:
1st conviction – 1 point, 2nd & subsequent convictions – 2 points

We pulled out our booster seat earlier in the week.  My 7yo DD had not used it for several months as she is almost exactly the same size as her 8yo sister who is not using a booster seat.  So, we are now back to one booster seat, one older child car seat for our 5yo son and 1 5-point harness seat for our 2yo son.  Really, really glad we have a large vehicle.

I'm glad they made it law.  Sadly, some folks just don't take safety seriously.

Wow, points on the license.  WTG, Georgia, for taking our children's safety seriously!!  Many states, it's just a fine and some parents, especially those in my local Kentucky area, see paying the fine as the bribe for getting away with seating their children as they please.

I'm so happy that they are making parents actually be responsible for their children. Their are some parents that just let their children do whatever they want. The Parents need to take their children's safety seriously and be way ahead of the state. My 7 year old wants to be out of the booster seat so bad but I told her she couldn't just yet. She has always been in the appropriate seat for her age ever since she was born.
