Shakespeare's character Laertes said, "to thine own self be true."

How will you teach such a precept to your children? What do you hope they take from it?

Well, we have spent a lot of time talking about following our own head and heart and not worrying about what others do. The kids see a lot of different people and people dressed really differently, but they don't even blink or ask. lol They are very much 'whatever floats your boat.'

I agree. My hope is that, through HS and parenting, my kids will be so strong in their own personal identity, and sense of self, that they will have no problem standing up for their beliefs. I also hope that they will have the strength of character to defend those weaker than themselves - standing up to discrimination or bullying.
