For younger ones (mine is 6), how do you teach art?

My DD has so much talent. She can already draw really well, color, and watch out on the creativity-she can jimmy up some craft creation better than McGuvyer. I want to start teaching her techniques to really stretch her thinking. This is 1 of my top 10 reasons to homeschool is I dont want her squished in a box of thinking. For ex I thought about asking her to draw a giant mural in chalk on our black top of something small blown up like a flower. OR doing a small picture using only dots, lines, and circles. OR only use 3 colors..stuff like that. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

1 mom liked this

sounds like my oldest dd, mural idea sounds great!! i also got some of those drawing books from dover and she did those, rod and staff has a neat drawing program that includes various techinques, we had paints(oils, acrylic, watercolor, tempura, pastels, chalk, charcoal, pen and ink,  for her to use, dh made her an easel, she painted on windows, my mom introduced her to painting, but her favorite is pastels,  i had her doing still lifes, as she got older we did all the batiking, tye dying, etc stuff, lots of arts and crafts, scrapbooking, quilting, we always had materials available for her, lots of construction paper, glue, etc

heres some great sites  http://www.brightring.com/Fun%20Activities.html

Make sure you keep your house well stocked in craft supplies, that are available to her.

these are good ideas. We just studied drawing techniques such as oils, mirror image, upside down etc. We will soon be studng great artists nd there is a good book I like that studies a famous artiust and you get to do your own interpretation. I think its great to think outside the box and not limit creativity but you also have to remember that its ok to teach the skills that are being applied.
