Hey ya'll!

Hey ya'll!  My name's Stepheny, and I live in North Carolina.  I'm new to both Cafe Mom and homeschooling, and am considering the latter as a serious option for my now kindergartener and upcoming preschooler for next year.  I really love the whole idea of homeschooling, if nothing else, because the school's in my area are awful, and I want my kids to have the best education possible.  The main thing that's holding me back right now is the cost of curriculum.  If anyone has any tips, then please, send them my way!

Hi! I homeschool my four kids for less than $200 a year. It's so easy for the early grades that besides craft supplies you could do it for free. 8)

There are free websites for worksheets, science ideas, math games, and anything else you need. 8) Good luck!

Welcome Stepheny! Starting with them in K your biggest expense should be craft & art supplies because at that age it should be all about the fun of learning.

The public library, used curriculum sales, and consignment/resale stores will be your best friend :-D

Hello! Welome to CM! I hope that you are able to find some options for obtaining curriculum so that you are able to homeschool. And since you should be able to use the curriculum for your oldest twice-alos using it for the youngest-you are getting more for your money. You may also want to consider writing your own curriculum. Here are two books I would recommend: Homeschooling on a Shoestring by Rebecca Rupp. And Home Learning Year by Year: How to Design a Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School.

I have been hsing for about 15 years.  There is an amazing amount of free stuff out there.  There is no need for cost to even factor into it.
