Hi, I have decided that I will home school my 10 year old when school starts next year. He will be considered a 5thgrader. He has always went to a public school but I have decided to change this for next year. Mostly due to the way the school is ran. He is having trouble with a boy who is older then him and has been told by the boy that he will kill my son. When I contacted the school they told me that the boy is just misunderstood and has a bad home life, so "don't worry your son will be fine, the boy wasn't really going to hurt your son." Needless to say we are constantly having troubles and if I knew how to start homeschooling in the middle of the year I would, but I have told my son to stay away from the trouble maker and also have told the principal that my son is not to be near the bully.
Also I am not satisfied with how they teach either. In math my son uses a multiplication graph so he doesn't have to memorize his multiplication tables. I know its been a while for me but I memorized my tables by the 3rd grade. They also do division with blocks, still have trouble figuring that one out. And what ever happened to spelling just being spelling, now he has science projects he does in with his spelling work and it has nothing to do with his spelling words or work. I just don't understand how they teach now, I guess I am old but man I miss Dick and Jane, lol.
I am kind of worried about home schooling due to the fact my 4th grader brings home work and I almost feel like I need to go with him just so I can help him with some of the stuff they are trying to teach him. So any help I could get would be appreciated in transitioning from public to homeschooling.
Sorry if I was long winded but it was nice to be able to tell someone else about my sons issues.
