find out your homeschool law first  and do what it says  http://www.homeschoollegaladvantage.com/resources/homeschool-laws-by-state

check out this site to get an idea of homeschooling  http://www.homeschooldiner.com/guide/intro/galaxy.html

how old are your kids? are they in public school now?

Welcome! Look in to deschooling for you & him because homeschooling never looks like school at home.

great, as usmom suggested it would be a good idea to deschool him, well you could do that over the summer!  next figure out what you want to teach him with, you have now and the whole summer to look and read about stuff!

A big welcome to you!

Great suggestions, just wanted to wave hello and give you a welcome. Relax and enjoy homeschooling. Homeschooling becomes just a part of your families daily happenings. You will have time to teach other things that are just as important as academics and they will get more time to just be kids. I found it very helpful to talk to homeschooling families of high school age and grown children when I first started. I still had my moments of concern, if I could repeat everything I would dump all those concerns.

Go to the library and pick up all the homeschooling books you can find and flip through them to start getting ideas on HOW you want to school. 8)

This is my suggestion too :) I learned a lot and felt very prepared after reading a few books that helped me narrow down the choices. it helps if you have an idea of the "method" you are most like. We are mostly Charlotte mason and classical. Knowing that really helped me when looking for curriculum.
