I agree that method is super important. We experimented with a classical christian approach that works fabulously for many, but it was a fail for us. We are destined to an eclectically waldorf-ish inspired approach with a Charlotte Mason flair, lol.

I highly recommend you to read the book The California Homeschool Guide By Karen Taylor it will tell you what you need to do to get into the first steps of HS and the laws bout it to. Read it i did and that's how i got started.

Here is an article with lots of information with resources  (state laws, how to determine and teach to your children's  learning styles, different home school methods (home school is not the class room), grade level requirements, testing resources (some states require this), and more.
