I'm very interested in hear some of the pro's and con's of home schooling. I live in michigan with my daughter Lily (age 4) and my son Nickoali (new born).
I'm a home mom but very involved with my children and lily has been wanting to go to school. Lily needs some friends and I need some real strong advise on the huge choice of homeschooling. I truely hope to hear you all. Thanks everyone :)

Welcome Tieira! I'm Shannon, and i HS my 2 boys now ages (nearly)11 and 8. We have always homeschooled and have loved every minute of it! My kids have several BFF's that they get to see about 1x/week. We do a once a week co-operative that has really allowed them to make connections with other homeschooled kids. We started HS'ing when my oldest was about 2.5 y/o.

Hi Tieira. Welcome to the group!   :)

My name is Sonja and  I have 7 kids and have homeschooled and still am, homeschooling some of them.  lol  We have always done the homeschool thing and I am so glad that we did.  It has been the better part of awesome and the lower part of frustrating.  lol   My first piece of advice is to learn what styles your children learn and teach according to that AND make sure you all take small breaks every so often just so you keep your teaching and learning experiences with each other, fresh.   I also like to tell new homeschooling parents.... U CAN Do This.  You R the best teacher your children can have. U know them best and so can teach them what they need according to how and when they need it.   You can decide to homeschool on a shoestring budget or pay for everything or even do something in the middle. Its all up to you.  That is why homeschooling is the best thing you can do for your children and yourselves.  You set the pace.  If you have questions, just ask away. There is usually someone that can and will answer and help you anyway they can.  :)

I very much loved your comment, your very thoughtfull. I do have to ask tho does the homeschooling experance take away from social skills? I do have to say it is a worry but what's more a worry is the things that kids nows adays learn and see and bring to public schools. Drugs and sex and just for example my younger brothers 13 and 14 yrs old come home and confronts me about kids their age smoking pot, ciggs, and drinking alchole and cough syurp in school and most of the girls in their grade already having sex and a few PG. Where has the parents of this generation gone? And no I go not live in detroit or flint or even saginaw, I live in the country side in the upper thumb of michigan. Where old ways should still count for something right? Not at all, homeschooling I believe in my heart is a great way to excell children or help them better where the schools can't /won't because they have so many other students. This is a huge deal to me for her and I don't know if I'm being over protective or justified in my fears and concerns about public schools. Not to mention school lunches that don't really serve real meat, all soy based and we've all heard of teachers and school staff taking our kids lunches away bc they feel they know better than the moms about what's healthy to eat for lunches. I'm very thoughtful with this topic and could really use some feed back to see what other moms think, your not all just strangers, you mothers with experance and information, with love and concerns for your own family and friends, I do hope I hear from you again soon, :)
