What do you do different in your summer school that you don't do in the rest of the school year? Do you purposely plan it that way?
Lol, I just posted about the same thing listed as "Summer Plans?" We are basically doing things the same except that she is also doing swim team, a summer only sport. We are still doing everything else. She does very little paperwork, but I get allergy shots twice a week and she does her work books while we were in the waiting room. It takes half an hour each time. I guess we also are not doing as much traveling over the summer as we usually do. We like to go to as many museums as we can during school hours. Less crowded then.
Oh yeah, and lots more gardening.
Ds goes to summer day camp for like 9 weeks. I'll be lucky if I can get him to read for 15 minutes a day.
Right now my kids are in a private school, during the summer we take a unit concept each week and cover that, do some workbook things, go on trips around town that tie into the units and things like that. When the kids hit 6th grade, they will probably be homeschooled, and I like being able to spend the summers doing a bit of a 'test' to see how works best. So summer is definitely different and we do plan it that way- but as time goes on that may change.
It's not different!
in summer we dont have school!!!! we dont have to start school at 9!!! i let them sleep in till 8, we dont do lang. art, we dont do math, we dont do unit studies,
in the rest of the school year we have schooling stuff! we start at 9, do math and lang arts and the rest of our unit studies
yes i purposly plan it this way
I would imagine that with unschooling, things wouldn't be that much different. Do you do more things as opposed to less just because its summer?
It's not different!
Most of my kids wanted to learn cursive as they said it was easier to remember how to spell words better.
Quoting Boobah:Julia will be doing handwriting, and possibly some math just so she doesn't forget everything. She is doing handwriting because she wants to start cursive (3rd grade) but I told her she needs to finish second first. Really, it's just something for her to do. Lol
