10 Things That Really Make Me Happy

Posted by Jill Smokler on June 4, 2012

I'm a pretty pessimistic person. I'm a happy person, but just a glass half empty rather than full kind of girl. I can't help it. So, every few weeks I try and take stock of the little things that have made me smile lately. Even for a few moments, my glass ends up pretty darn full. Thinking I should do it more often. Here's today's list ...

1. A perfectly poached egg. Such a simple thing, but done right? Perfection.

2. Cancelled sports practice. It's the grown-up version of a snow day.

3. A newly toothless grin. Few things are as cute as a huge smile with a missing front tooth.

4. A good haircut. Amazing what a difference it can make.

5. An '80s movie marathon on TV. Best day ever!

6. Nutella from the jar.

7. Shoes that are cute and comfortable. I may just have bought Fit-Flops in four colors.

8. A long, hot shower. Without an audience.

9. A pitcher of sangria and someone I want to share it with.

10. A nap. Nothing beats a nap.

 What makes YOU happy?

A good book

My 'sanity time' each night - when the kids are in bed and my DH isn't back from school until midnight, I will sit on my porch with a large, steaming cup of Joe and a good book. No phones, no computers, no cleaning, no kids, no hubby...just peaceful silence, reading and yum!

4.  that dh cooks dinner for us every night

5.  my 2 favorite HBO series and So You Think You Can Dance

6.  Anyone saying I Love You to me

7.  a positive bank balance

8.  good-fitting blue jeans

9.  being at a friend's house eating, drinking, chatting, and laughing for hours

A good book and actually getting to read it

Since I am new to HS, one of the new things that makes me happy is when I see my 5 year old daughter happy about her accomplishments that day!!

When the kids actually do what they are asked the first time.

Going to watch my kids play baseball.

In absolutely no particular order:

1) Being with someone who really likes me.

2) A good book

3) a tall glass of diet mountain dew or diet coke

4) all my appliances working (been a bit of a problem lately!)

5) Netflix!

6) Having all four of my children, my DIL, and my granddaughter, here with me (though they tend to mess up my house!)

7) A clean and neat house.

8) Seeing my parents (I see them once or twice per year)

9) Being slim and young (both unattainable now)

10) A new haircut and fresh hair color

11) Getting homeschooling books in the mail.

12) Getting sales on my Etsy site.

Wow, I didn't know I was so happy!

Oh, and mustn't forget this one:

13) Watching Richard Dean Anderson in everything (reference back to the 80's comment)

cuddling with my boys while watching a movie

being able to take karate with my boys

working on my splits

reading to my children

getting new materials for school in the mail

long quiet drives

warm spring days

clean house

going somewhere new and not getting lost or turned around

field trips

shopping by myself

doing a spinning flip kick without falling flat on my butt
